Into the Realms

2018 - 2019 My studio based photographs invite the viewer to step 'Into the Realms' of the visual, material, and the imaginative. Captivated by the qualities of essential elements, such as water, light, and color, that I saw existing within the natural world, I discovered unique fleeting moments that occur as these mutable elements interact. Photography as a medium has enabled me to witness and experience these ephemeral moments through the physical lens of the camera and also provided a method for me to bring a materiality to this intangible coexisting reality through the photographic object. By investigating the tension between representation and abstraction, and how our perception of space can be reshaped, Into the Realms visualizes how a radically new experience of the world can be sought out and a familiar perspective re-described. Transported to the edge of reference and a place where the viewer can create their own space, Into the Realms provides an opportunity for the viewer to navigate the mystery that lies between the familiar and the unknown.
